Alcohol testing has real limits. Hair strand tests show a broad historical pattern, and a negative result does not rule out abuse or dependency. PEth and blood tests cover a shorter, more recent window. None of these tests substitute for a judge's assessment of the person's own admissions, past behaviour, and the pattern described by others, including children. A clean test result is evidence, not proof that alcohol is not a problem.
