Litigants believe that court fees are fixed, permanent, and if you cannot pay — you cannot proceed.
Court fees rose on 13 July 2026. A divorce application went from £612 to £628. An application for a matrimonial order rose from £415 to £426. Originating proceedings increased from £279 to £286. These were inflationary increases across 170 fees — and more are coming. But Help with Fees exists. If you are on a low income or receive certain benefits, you may not have to pay at all. Do not assume you are priced out — check first.
