What People Expect

People think an offer to pay over time will be accepted as long as the total sounds reasonable.

Court Reality

The court looks at whether the payer can actually fund the payments. Vague plans such as possible loans from colleagues, a bank that was never approached, or asset sales with no buyer can lead the court to reject an instalment proposal altogether.
