What People Expect

People think transferring money or property to a spouse automatically turns it into a shared family asset.

Court Reality

A transfer between spouses does not by itself make an asset shared. What matters is whether you both treated and used it as a family resource over time. In RRE v JPR [2026] EWFC 7, the court found that moving wealth into the wife's name did not change its character.
