Assumption: "(Domestic Abuse Courses) Any domestic abuse course will do, as long as I finish it."

What People Expect

People think completing any course shows the court they have changed.

Court Reality

If Cafcass recommends a particular type of programme, such as a RESPECT accredited one, the court may expect that standard to be met. In a 2026 case, a father completed a long course, but it was not accredited, was delivered by group video call with no meaningful one-to-one work, and only covered the findings he accepted. The court held it did not meet the recommendation and said an accredited programme had to be completed before contact could progress. If you are unsure whether a course qualifies, check with Cafcass or the court before you start.
