What People Expect

People expect a McKenzie Friend to act like their representative.

Court Reality

The McKenzie Friend Practice Guidance says a McKenzie Friend may help with case papers and give advice (para 3), and you may share information about the proceedings with them (para 15). They may not act as your agent or manage your case outside court, for example by signing court documents (para 4). The guidance doesn't say directly whether a McKenzie Friend may write to the solicitor for you. Correspondence normally comes from you as the party.
